Hokitika Gorge

I’m a sucker for epic blue waters, so a stop at Hokitika Gorge was a must on our West Coast to-do list.

We were in the midst of a rainy West Coast road trip, making our way from Franz Josef Glacier north toward Nelson. We stopped for a night in Hokitika, hoping that we’d get a break from the rain and be able to visit the gorge in some decent weather. When we started our trek that morning it was still raining, which made me worry that the water would be a murky grey, but we ventured onward.

Much to our surprise, we still had magnificently blue waters. If we had more time here, you bet I would have gone for a swim instead of hopping back in the car to hit the road again. Oh well, next time!
