Exploring Athens

What better place to explore ancient history than Athens?

Athens was a great introduction to Greece for us. We stayed near the center of the city, which made it really easy to grab great local food and explore parks and heritage sites. Believe it or not, Athens can be visited on a budget! We opted for public transport to get to town from the airport, and to get to the port for our ferries to and from the islands.

We also found it easy to explore the sights without spending heaps of cash, and mostly avoiding crowds of tourists. Hint: it involved a little hiking and appreciating the Acropolis and Parthenon from afar.
