Ancient Acropolis of Sami
Visiting ancient ruins on the way to the beach.
For our first few days in Kefalonia, we adventured without wheels. So naturally when we wanted to visit one of the island’s best beaches, Antisamos, we found a way to hike here. From just outside Sami town, we connected with the trail that leads to the ancient acropolis of Sami as well as other Roman ruins. The fortress dates back to 5th - 2nd century BC and covers a lot of ground. We enjoyed being serenaded by the goats and their bells, and after taking in the views continued down to the beach.
There are a variety of trails in the area, so allow a couple hours to explore it all and make your way to the beach.
