Top 6 Beaches of Kefalonia
Is visiting Greece on your bucket list? If not, maybe these amazing beaches will sway you.
Greece has thousands of stunning islands to offer, but Kefalonia may just have the best beaches in the country. We did the hard work of visiting dozens of them so we could share the best ones with you.
Myrtos Beach
Best beach ever. Just a 30 minute drive from the port town of Sami, Myrtos is easy to reach and won us over as favorite beach on the island. Combining stunning beauty with crystal clear waters and a white stone beach, you really can’t go wrong. The beach was clean, free of rubbish, and lucky for us - empty. The stones provide a comfortable place to lay out in the sun on a beach towel and avoid bringing home piles of pesky sand.
Antisamos Beach
Antisamos is said to be the best beach on the island, and that’s not far off. Antisamos is reachable from Sami by car in around ten minutes, but for the more adventurous we’d recommend hiking in. From Sami, head up the hiking trail to the Ancient Acropolis of Sami, and from the top continue onward to the beach. This hiking route takes about an hour and a half and boasts fabulous views. The stony beach is clean with clear water and offers some tourist amenities during summer months.
Foki Beach
Just a few minutes outside Fiskardo on Kefalonia’s north end, Foki beach offers a quaint, relaxing atmosphere. A small cove shaded by olive trees links up with a handful of walking trails to explore the area. There are small caves hidden along the rocky coast and some great rugged views.
Kalamia Beach
Kalamia is a bit smaller than the others, but that can be a plus as it attracts less of a crowd. Situated just outside of Lassi and Argostoli, a small trail off the main road (although muddy and vague in the off-season) leads to a picturesque beach with a small cave to explore on the left end. There won’t be much for amenities here, but there are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding area.
Xi Beach
Situated at the south end of the Paliki peninsula, Xi is one of the more unique beaches we stumbled upon in Kefalonia. The red sand beach is framed by tall grey cliffs and bright blue waters. Hidden just a few inches under the red sand is thick clay that is supposedly great for your skin. This beach is a bit more populated with resorts so is sure to be busy in summer, but will still definitely be worth a visit.
Pentani Beach
Last but certainly not least, we have Pentani in the northwest of the Paliki peninsula. Don’t let the hairpin curves on the access road and luxury resorts scare you away, because this is absolutely one of the best beaches on the island. It’s rocky and offers some room for exploration, plus the water is the most magical color of blue. It doesn’t get much better than this!
